Review Process
Every review follows the same five-step process. No shortcuts, no exceptions.
Tool Identification & Registry Entry
We identify tools that belong in our coverage based on category relevance, market presence, and reader demand. Each tool is entered into our structured registry with verified metadata.
Data Collection from Official Sources
We pull pricing, feature sets, and integration details directly from official vendor documentation and product pages. Marketing claims are verified against published specifications.
User Review Aggregation & Analysis
We aggregate and weight user reviews from G2, Capterra, and other verified review platforms. Outliers and suspicious review patterns are filtered. Aggregate scores inform our User Satisfaction criterion.
Methodology-Based Scoring
Each tool is scored against category-specific weighted criteria. Weights are published on our methodology page. The same criteria apply regardless of whether the tool has an affiliate program.
Peer Review & Fact-Checking
Every review goes through fact-checking before publication. Pricing is verified against live pricing pages. Statistics are traced to primary sources. Claims without verifiable backing are removed.
Independence
No Varnish operates independently. Tool vendors cannot pay for reviews, influence ratings, or preview content before publication. No vendor has editorial input over any page on this site. Our ratings reflect our published methodology, applied consistently across every tool we cover.

Affiliate relationships never influence our ratings or recommendations. Tools without affiliate programs receive the same evaluation rigor as tools with them. Commission rates play no role in our scoring.
Corrections Policy
When we get something wrong, we fix it and disclose the correction. Factual errors are corrected within 48 hours of verification. All corrections are logged on our corrections page with the date, affected content, and what changed. Getting things right matters more than looking right.
Content Updates
Reviews are updated when pricing changes, major feature releases occur, or user sentiment shifts significantly. Updated dates are always visible on the page. We verify pricing against live vendor pages on a monthly cycle. When a tool undergoes a significant change, we re-score it against the same criteria.
AI Disclosure
We use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, and data analysis. All content is reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by the No Varnish team. Our analysis and recommendations reflect our own methodology and judgment, not unverified AI output.
